Carmichael, Frederick Donald – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Fred Carmichael, Sr, surrounded by his children, on Friday, March 9th, 2018, in his 88th year. Son of the late Allan “Red” and Minnie Carmichael (nee Longhurst). Predeceased by his loving wife Bernice Carmichael (nee McCauley).
Survived by his children Linda Carvill (Billy), Carol Reynolds (Charley), Vickie Whalen (late John), Rickie Hussey (Roger), Fred Carmichael (Val), Linda Price (Brian), Debbie Naphan (Glenn), Mary Jane Winterburn (Shane), and Son-in-law Taras Babiak (Laurel); predeceased by his beloved daughter Catherine Carmichael.
Survived by his brother Duncan “Butch” Carmichael (Doreen); predeceased by brothers R.D Longhurst and W.J Allan Carmichael.
Fred will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Belinda Price (Sean), Tom Matthews (Kristy), Jon Carvill, Jaime Ward (Mark), Amanda Matthews (James), Angela Henry (Clay), Blaine Hussey (Tila), Jason Whalen, Jessie Price, Shawn Naphan (Victoria), Tamara Searles (Ian), Jenni Bridger (Justin), Mikhailo Babiak, Claren Searles (Jeff), Jarad Winterburn (Leslie), Alexander Carmichael, Alexandra Babiak (Nico), and 27 great grandchildren who he thoroughly enjoyed.
Fred was proud to be an Engineer for the Canadian National Railways (CNR) until he retired in 1986. He is fondly remembered by many as the “Captain” of the Pelican houseboat that he built, and loved to spend his days fishing with his family and friends on the Bay of Quinte.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Moore and all the staff of Moira Place Nursing Home in Tweed, Ontario where dad lived for the past 2 years for their kindness and compassion. He spoke fondly of each of you.
Friends may call at the JOHN R. BUSH FUNERAL HOME, 80 Highland Ave., Belleville (613-968-5588) on Saturday, March 17th, 2018 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Masonic service at 12:45, followed by the funeral services held in the chapel Saturday, March 17th, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
